Best Of Both Worlds: Fun Yet Informative Training

Employee training can be a drag for both trainers and trainees. No matter how good the trainer is, generally, work training can sometimes be daunting if there is no fun element in it.

Information overload and long bouts of being talked at can bore even the most patient employee. There are ways to make your training not only more successful but more enjoyable for the whole staff.

Tell stories

Make up a story from time to time. Tell stories that are relevant to the training and this will help in keeping their attention. This is an excellent way to engage and gauge your employees’ reactions. These responses can contribute to your working knowledge of them and tailor your program if needed.

Get interactive

You can get super creative with this. Depending on what your company does, you can do just about anything when you put your mind to it. Having groups to get together and perform small tasks together can help in communication and team bonding.

Teach each other

By breaking into small groups and giving them something to read, you can have them take down major points and present them to the rest of the training room. This can help to increase the energy of the group.

Give them short break

Let the trainees take some time to grab a snack, take down some notes, or to just make a phone call. A small break of 5 minutes will help them to recharge and be ready for the rest of training.

This can also be a good time for you, as the speaker, to recharge and reevaluate your program and how it is going. Any adjustments that need to be made can be figured out and done.


Use plenty of pictures and maybe even videos to stimulate the right brain’s attention. When there are colours and charts to look at, it is much easier to remember information that is being relayed. Do not be afraid to get creative and do something outside of the box.


Playing games are not only fun but stimulating. Your employees will always remember the game they played that one time during training. Letting them unwind and even get some rewards for doing a good job.

Work together

As mentioned earlier, have them get into groups to do some sort of activity. Letting the smaller groups get to know each other will create a more comfortable environment.

Setting up training for employees can be a daunting task. Knowing what to do and what to say is a good start, but you should also get to know your audience. By engaging them in games, visuals, and other interactive activities, you will be giving them the experience to remember.

By sending them home with quickly relayed information and satisfaction of a good time, your message will be heard loud and clear. As long as you relax and create a program that is fun and engaging, you should have no troubles and will pull it off well.
